Meghalaya NEET Counselling 2026 is the state-level counseling process, through which NEET UG qualified candidates get an MBBS/BDS seat in the medical colleges of Meghalaya. Meghalaya State Counselling Authority for Medical Education (MSCAMA), operating under the Directorate of Health Services, Medical Education & Research (DME), Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya conducts the counselling on official webiste (https://meghealth.gov.in/).
The original NEET UG 2026 exam, scheduled for 3rd May 2026, was cancelled by the National Testing Agency after paper leak allegations, and a fresh Re-NEET Exam was conducted on 21st June 2026. With the NEET UG 2026 result now out, attention has shifted to counselling.
As always, seats will be split between the All India Quota (AIQ), handled centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and the State Quota, handled independently by Meghalaya through MSCAMA.

Types of Meghalaya NEET Counselling 2026
Meghalaya's NEET counselling process is broadly divided into the following types:
- All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling – 15% of the total seats in Meghalaya's government medical colleges are filled through AIQ, conducted centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on mcc.nic.in. Any NEET-qualified candidate from anywhere in India can participate in this quota regardless of home state.
- State Quota Counselling – The remaining 85% of seats are filled by MSCAMA based on Meghalaya's own reservation and eligibility rules. This quota is further divided into category-wise reservation for Khasi & Jaintia, Garo, Unreserved/General, and SC/OST candidates (details in the reservation section below).
- NEIGRIHMS North-East Open Category Counselling – NEIGRIHMS, Shillong conducts its own separate admission process for its NE-Open category seats, open to candidates from all 8 North-Eastern states including Sikkim, along with dedicated Meghalaya and Nagaland state seats and a common all-India merit segment.
- Management/NRI Quota (where applicable) – A seat-sharing SOP has been notified for a private institution (PA Sangma International Medical College, PIMC, under USTM) that envisages Management and NRI quota seats alongside State Quota seats. This arrangement is linked to a private medical institutions ordinance that is still under the government's consideration, so admissions under this quota depend on further notifications.
Meghalaya NEET Counselling Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility requirements differ slightly by quota and institution, but the broad framework is as follows.

Meghalaya NEET Counselling Process Step by Step
The overall admission journey follows these stages:
- NEET UG Result & Merit List – Candidates first need to qualify NEET UG 2026 and check their rank/percentile once results are declared.
- Online Registration – Eligible candidates register on the official counselling portal (meghealth.gov.in for State Quota, mcc.nic.in for AIQ, or the respective college's site for NEIGRIHMS/institute-specific seats).
- Filling the Application/Choice Form – Candidates fill in personal, academic and category details and select their preferred course/college wherever applicable.
- Uploading Documents – Scanned copies of required certificates are uploaded as per the specified size limits.
- Payment of Application Fee – A non-refundable processing fee is paid online via debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI.
- Publication of Rank/Merit List – A category-wise merit list is published on the official websites based on NEET AIR.
- Seat Allotment – Seats are allotted round-wise strictly by merit, category reservation and seat availability.
- Reporting for Document Verification & Medical Exam – Allotted candidates report in person with original documents and undergo a medical fitness check.
- Fee Payment & Bond Execution – Candidates pay the admission/tuition fee and execute the required bond agreement.
- Joining the College – Candidates must join classes on the notified date; failure to do so without prior permission can lead to cancellation of admission.
- Subsequent Rounds – Vacant seats move to Round 2, Round 3 and finally the Stray Vacancy round, following the same merit-based process.
Meghalaya NEET Counselling Registration Process
To register for Meghalaya State Quota counselling, candidates generally need to:
- Visit the official website – https://meghealth.gov.in/ (or the specific college's website such as smcshillong.ac.in).
- Click on the link for online application/registration for the relevant academic session.
- Register using an email ID and set a password to create a login.
- Log in and fill in the application form with details such as name (as per Class 12 admit card), course type, and hostel requirement.
- Upload the required documents (each within the specified file size limit, usually 2MB).
- Pay the non-refundable application/registration fee through the available online payment modes.
- Preview the form carefully before final submission, once submitted, it cannot be edited.
- Download the system-generated acknowledgement slip and retain it for future reference; a confirmation email is also sent.
For NEIGRIHMS and MCC (AIQ) counselling, registration follows a similar pattern but is done separately through their own respective portals (neigrihms.gov.in and mcc.nic.in).
Meghalaya NEET Counselling Choice Filling
Since Meghalaya has a limited number of colleges and seats, State Quota counselling functions largely as a single-window, category-wise merit allotment rather than an elaborate multi-college choice-filling exercise like in larger states. Candidates should:
- Carefully review the seat matrix and reservation category before submitting preferences.
- Note that choices, once locked, are generally binding for that round.
- Keep an eye on official notifications for any specific choice-filling window, since this step is added only when applicable.
For AIQ seats, choice filling is conducted centrally on the MCC portal, where candidates rank all eligible colleges/courses across India in order of preference.
Meghalaya NEET Counselling 2026 Documents Required
Candidates should keep the following documents ready (originals plus attested photocopies, as specified by the respective institute):
- NEET UG 2026 Admit Card and Score Card/Rank Letter
- Class 10 (Secondary) passed certificate and mark sheet
- Class 12 (Higher Secondary/10+2) passed certificate and mark sheet
- Age proof (birth certificate or as reflected in Class 10 certificate)
- Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC)/Domicile Certificate valid for the relevant year
- ST/SC/OST certificate, where applicable, issued by the competent authority in Meghalaya
- Migration certificate
- Character and Conduct Certificate
- Medical Fitness Certificate

Within all categories, an additional reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) applies as per National Medical Commission guidelines and the NEET-UG Information Bulletin. Merit within each reserved category is determined purely by the NEET UG All India Rank, there is no additional weightage for any other factor.
Meghalaya NEET Counselling Seat Allotment Process
- The process of seat allotment will be based strictly on the NEET UG All India Rank, category-wise reservation and availability of seats and there will be no interview or further assessment involved.
- Allotment takes place in more than one round such as Round 1, Round 2 and the Mop-Up / Stray vacancy round, where the vacant seats from any category are carried forward to the next round.
- Post every round, the list will be forwarded by the counselling authority to the Health & Family Welfare Department for approval after which it will be communicated to the respective college.
- Candidates allotted seat should report for document verification and medical fitness test on the notified date.
- Surrender of seat is possible only in the early rounds (before the stipulated cut-off date); surrendering in late rounds usually results in loss of admission fee.
- The term "joining" implies that the candidate is expected to report for document verification in the early rounds whereas paying of fees and downloading of the allotment order itself can be considered as joining in the latter rounds.
- The candidate who fails to report, pay fees and get verification completed within the stipulated time period loses his/her allotted seat.
