Types of Nagaland NEET Counselling 2026
Nagaland’s counselling is simpler than most states, since there’s only one medical college, but it still splits across a few channels:
- State Quota Counselling (85%): The bulk of NIMSR’s MBBS seats, reserved for Nagaland-domiciled candidates and counselled directly by DTE Nagaland.
- All India Quota (AIQ – 15%): A fixed 15% of NIMSR’s MBBS seats, counselled centrally by MCC and open to NEET-qualified candidates from anywhere in India.
- Regional/Central Pool Seats: Since Nagaland doesn’t yet have its own dental or full AYUSH college network, DTE Nagaland also processes applications for a limited number of seats reserved for Nagaland candidates in institutions elsewhere in the North-East — for example, BAMS/BHMS seats at NEIAH, Shillong, and seats at RIMS, Imphal.
- Category-based Counselling: Within the State Quota, seats are further split between Nagaland Scheduled Tribe (NST) candidates, recognised Backward Tribes, and Non-NST Nagaland residents.
- PwBD Quota: A separate horizontal track for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities.

Nagaland NEET Counselling Process Step by Step
- Check your NEET UG 2026/Re-NEET result and rank on neet.nta.nic.in.
- Collect or download the application form from DTE Nagaland, Kohima, or dte.nagaland.gov.in (this year’s window: 22 June to 23 July 2026).
- Pay the application fee (₹500 or ₹750 as applicable) and fill the form by hand on A4 paper if downloaded.
- Submit the filled form with all required documents to DTE Nagaland by the notified deadline, and submit your NEET score card within 7 days of the result (or by the extended combined deadline, as notified this year).
- Check the State Merit List once published on dte.nagaland.gov.in and the DTE notice board, and verify your name, father’s name, NEET score, and rank carefully.
- Report any discrepancies to DTE within the notified window.
- Check the selection/allotment list for NIMSR’s State Quota seats.
- Report to NIMSR, Phreibagei, Kohima with original documents, complete the admission formalities, and pay the prescribed fees.
Nagaland NEET Counselling Registration Process
- Application forms can be collected in person from the Directorate of Technical Education, Kohima (below the New Secretariat Complex) on payment of the fee in cash, or downloaded from dte.nagaland.gov.in and filled by hand on A4-size paper.
- If downloaded, the fee must be submitted in cash along with the filled form.
- The completed application, along with all necessary supporting documents, must reach the DTE office by the notified last date.
- The NEET UG 2026 Score Card must additionally be submitted within 7 days of the result declaration (or by the extended deadline notified for this cycle).
- No applications or score cards are entertained after the notified deadline, so don’t leave this to the last moment.
Nagaland NEET Counselling Choice Filling
Nagaland’s counselling doesn’t involve the multi-round “choice filling” system you’d see in bigger states with just one medical college and one course (MBBS), there’s no list of institutes/courses to rank in order of preference. Instead:
- Your application itself (with your category and supporting documents) is what determines your place in the State Merit List.
- Seats are offered strictly by merit order within your applicable category (NST, Backward Tribe, Non-NST, PwBD) against the 85 State Quota seats available.
- There’s no option to “choose” between colleges since NIMSR is currently the state’s only medical college, your only real choice is whether to accept your MBBS seat when offered, or instead pursue MCC’s 15% AIQ route.

Nagaland’s reservation structure reflects the state’s demographics — the vast majority of the population belongs to recognised Naga tribes, so Scheduled Tribe status dominates the category structure, alongside specific Backward Tribe classifications.

Reservation and domicile certificates must be issued by the competent authority in Nagaland (typically the Deputy Commissioner), certificates from other states are not accepted for State Quota benefits.
Nagaland NEET Counselling Seat Allotment Process
- Seat allotment for the 85% State Quota is based on the State Merit List, prepared using each candidate’s NEET UG 2026 score and rank, cross-checked against category and eligibility documents.
- Once the merit list is finalised, DTE Nagaland (in coordination with NIMSR) publishes a selection/allotment list for the available State Quota seats.
- Selected candidates must report to NIMSR, Phreibagei, Kohima, with all original documents, complete verification, and pay the prescribed fees within the timeline notified by the Institute.
- Candidates who don’t report and complete admission formalities within the stipulated time risk losing their seat to the next candidate on the merit list.
- As per NMC guidelines, admissions to NIMSR are strictly on the basis of NEET rank only, there is no separate entrance test or interview.
- Furnishing false, incorrect, or fraudulent certificates at any stage can lead to cancellation of the seat and further action as per NMC/university rules.
