This year’s entire process was already delayed because of the Re-NEET UG exam, so getting an accurate and updated picture about the schedule has become even more essential now.

In this article, I have listed down all the important dates related to NEET Counselling 2026, starting from registration to the last day of reporting. Make sure to note them down as they will be really helpful while filling your application form.

Why NEET Counselling 2026 Date Got Delayed

The NEET-UG exam of the year 2026 took place on May 3, 2026, but the test was cancelled and taken again on June 21, 2026 as Re-NEET UG test. The result of Re-NEET UG was announced by the NTA on July 16, 2026, which is almost two months late than a counselling process can begin. The consequence of it is that the schedule for the official counselling process will be announced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) in the fourth week of July 2026.

Understanding Each NEET Counselling 2026 Date in Detail

1. Registration Date

This is the window during which eligible candidates create their counselling account and pay the applicable fee. Missing this date means missing the entire round — MCC does not accept late registrations for a round once it closes.

2. Choice Filling & Locking Date

Once registered, candidates fill in their preferred colleges and courses in ranked order. The locking deadline is critical: if you don’t manually lock your choices, the system automatically locks whatever order you last saved, so never leave this to the very last moment in case of technical glitches.

3. Seat Allotment Result Date

On this date, MCC (or the state authority) publishes the provisional seat allotment based on rank, category, and locked choices. Candidates must check this immediately, since the reporting window that follows is usually short.

4. Reporting/Joining Date

Allotted candidates must physically report to their college with original documents within this window. Missing it without informing the college in advance can result in the seat being forfeited to the next round.

5. Next Round Registration Date

Unallotted candidates and those seeking upgradation must watch for the next round’s registration opening date, which usually follows quickly after the previous round’s reporting deadline closes.

Round-Wise Timeline Explained

  • Round 1 is the biggest round, open to all eligible, registered candidates, and typically fills the majority of seats.
  • Round 2 allows both unallotted candidates from Round 1 and fresh registrants to participate, along with upgradation for those who already hold a seat.
  • Round 3 (Mop-Up Round) opens up whatever seats remain vacant after Round 2, and is usually the last round in which upgradation is permitted.
  • Stray Vacancy Round is the final round, meant only to fill any seats still lying vacant; fresh registration is generally not allowed here for AIQ/Deemed seats.

State counselling authorities frequently run one or two additional state-specific rounds beyond the AIQ Stray Vacancy Round, so always check your state’s own bulletin as well for the exact NEET Counselling 2026 date applicable to your state quota admission.
