Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued an important notice dated 6 August 2026 regarding the verification of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates participating in NEET UG Counselling 2026. As per the notification, all OCI and NRI candidates seeking admission under the NRI quota must first get their credentials verified by the MCC NRI Document Verification Team before they can participate in the counselling process under the NRI category.
The verification process is mandatory to establish a candidate’s eligibility for NRI quota seats. Candidates who do not complete the document verification process may not be able to access NRI quota seats during counselling.
NRI Document Verification Mandatory for OCI & NRI Candidates
According to the MCC notification, all eligible OCI and NRI candidates must submit their documents to the designated NRI Document Verification Team of MCC. Once the documents are successfully verified and the candidate’s NRI eligibility is confirmed, the candidate will be considered eligible for admission under the NRI category.
This verification is an essential step before the choice filling process and should be completed well in advance to avoid any inconvenience during counselling.
Access to Both NRI and UR Seats After Verification
Candidates whose NRI status is successfully verified will be able to view both NRI quota seats and Indian Unreserved (UR) seats during the online choice filling process. This provides eligible candidates with greater flexibility, allowing them to select colleges and courses from either category based on their preferences and merit.
Select “YES” for NRI Quota During Registration
MCC has specifically advised OCI and NRI candidates to select “YES” for the following question while completing the online counselling registration:
“Whether you want to apply for NRI Quota seats?”
Selecting this option ensures that the candidate’s request for NRI quota consideration is recorded and processed for document verification.
Complete Verification Before Choice Filling
Medical Counselling Committee has advised all OCI and NRI candidates to complete the document verification process well before the commencement of choice filling. Early verification will help candidates avoid last-minute delays and ensure uninterrupted participation in the counselling process.
