Types of Sikkim NEET Counselling 2026

Since SMIMS is the only medical college in Sikkim, admission for Sikkim NEET Counselling 2026 is organised through the following categories rather than a typical state/management/AIQ split.

  • General (All India) Category: Open to any citizen of India, admission based on merit obtained in NEET. 32 seats are earmarked here.
  • North East Category: Open to permanent residents of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Sikkim, with a valid domicile/permanent residence certificate. 32 seats are earmarked here.
  • Defence Category: Reserved for wards of Defence personnel, in a set order of preference (serving Armed Forces personnel posted in Sikkim first, then ex-servicemen residents of Sikkim, then other paramilitary personnel posted in Sikkim). 1 seat is earmarked here.
  • Government of Sikkim Nominated Category: 80 seats reserved for candidates selected directly by the Government of Sikkim, comprising 50 free seats (100% course fee concession) and 30 full-fee-paying seats. Applicants under this category must contact the Director of Technical Education, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, Gangtok, rather than applying directly to SMIMS.
  • Management Category: Open to any citizen of India, admission based on merit obtained in NEET; NRI candidates can also apply under this category. 5 seats are earmarked here.

Candidates seeking General, North East, Defence, or Management category seats apply directly to SMIMS, while the Sikkim Quota is managed entirely by the state government’s nomination process.

  1. Qualify NEET UG 2026 conducted by NTA, and wait for the MBBS counselling schedule to be released as per MCC notification.

  5. Wait-listed candidates need not pay any fee until they receive selection intimation from SMIMS following a withdrawal or cancellation by another candidate.
  6. Report in person for document verification, along with original documents and four sets of self-attested photocopies.
  7. Pay the applicable Caution Deposit, Registration Fee, and course fee as per the category and instalment option chosen.
  8. Complete admission formalities and reporting for the commencement of MBBS classes, as per MCC notification.

Sikkim NEET Counselling Registration Process

Registration for Sikkim NEET UG Counselling 2026 depends on the category a candidate is applying under.

  • Candidates applying under the General, North East, Defence, or Management category must apply directly to SMIMS through the university’s application portal; no modification in the application is permitted after the last date of submission is over.
  • Candidates applying under the Sikkim Quota category must contact the Director of Technical Education, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, Gangtok, instead of applying directly to SMIMS.
  • SMU has no agents or middlemen for admission, and there is no donation or capitation fee of any kind; all authorised information is available only on smu.edu.in.
  • The distribution of seats under respective categories is provisional and liable to change based on Government orders or decisions by the Governing Council, and the authority reserves the right to disqualify any application found to carry incorrect or incomplete information at any stage.
  • Candidates should visit their application portal frequently for updates, since counselling dates communicated by SMU must be strictly followed with no extension permitted.

Sikkim NEET Counselling Choice Filling

Choice filling for Sikkim NEET Counselling 2026 works differently from a typical multi-college choice list, since SMIMS is the only medical college in the state.

  • Candidates are advised to exercise options for as many categories as they desire, as per their respective eligibility for each category, to improve their chance of selection.
  • Vacant seats in any reserved category (Sikkim Quota, North East, or Defence) are converted into the General category if no eligible candidate is available.
  • If a candidate wants to switch from one allotted category to another after admission, they must first withdraw from the currently allotted seat, and the applicable withdrawal rules apply.
