Assam NEET Counselling 2026 is the state level process through which the NEET UG qualified students get their MBBS and BDS admissions into Assam Medical and Dental colleges. Assam NEET Counselling 2026 is carried out by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam whose official website link is https://dme.assam.gov.in.
15% of seats of Assam Government Medical and Dental Colleges are filled through All India Quota (AIQ) which is filled by MCC at the central level and 85% State Quota seats are filled by DME Assam through separate online counselling process.
The original NEET UG Exam scheduled for 3rd May 2026 was cancelled by the National Testing Agency following paper leak allegations, and a fresh Re-NEET Exam was conducted on 21st June 2026, with results declared on 16th July 2026. Assam NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 1 registration will be conducted online from August 13 to 15, 2026. Choice filling will take place from August 16 to 18, followed by choice locking, seat allotment from August 19 to 21, and result publication on August 22, 2026.

Types of Assam NEET Counselling 2026
Assam's NEET counselling is organised around the following broad categories:
- State Quota Counselling (85%): Conducted entirely by DME Assam for MBBS and BDS seats in Assam's government medical and dental colleges, open only to candidates who meet Assam's domicile criteria.
- All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling (15%): Conducted centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on mcc.nic.in, open to NEET-qualified candidates from anywhere in India, regardless of domicile.
- Special Reservation Categories: Within the State Quota, DME Assam also runs dedicated processes for special categories such as Tea Garden Labourer (TGL)/Ex-TGL, Freedom Fighter's quota, Defence/Sports quota, and candidates from Char (riverine) areas, each requiring specific certificates submitted in person at the DME office.
- AIIMS Guwahati & ESIC Medical College Admissions: Since AIIMS Guwahati and ESIC Medical College, Beltola are central government institutions, their seats are filled entirely through MCC's central counselling process rather than DME Assam's state counselling.
Since Assam currently has no private medical or dental college, there is no separate Management or NRI quota in the state's counselling system, all seats fall under either State Quota or All India Quota.

Assam NEET Counselling Registration Process
To register for Assam's State Quota counselling, candidates typically need to:
- Visit the official DME Assam website (https://dme.assam.gov.in).
- Click on the "New Registration" option for NEET UG counselling.
- Fill in personal information such as name, gender, nationality, nativity, Aadhaar number, date of birth, category, disability status, educational qualification, email ID, mobile number, and communication address, carefully and accurately.
- Upload a recent passport-size photograph (a high-contrast photo taken with a placard showing the candidate's name and the date it was taken) and a scanned signature in both English and the prescribed format.
- Review all entered information for accuracy before submitting the form.
- Pay the registration/counselling fee online through net banking, UPI, debit/credit card, or bank challan, as instructed on the portal.
- Receive an Application Number and Password via email and SMS, keep this safe, as it's needed for all subsequent logins.
Only applications submitted through the official DME Assam portal are valid for State Quota consideration, candidates must report physically to the Directorate of Medical Education office (Six Miles, Khanapara, Guwahati-22) with original documents when required during the counselling process.

Assam NEET Counselling Seat Allotment Process
- Seat allotment is based strictly on the candidate's NEET UG rank, category reservation, choices filled during choice filling, and seat availability across colleges, there is no interview or additional evaluation.
- Assam's counselling generally runs in two main rounds, followed by a Mop-Up/Stray Vacancy round for any seats that remain vacant, in line with the national NEET counselling timeline set by the Supreme Court and NMC guidelines.
- Candidates allotted a seat must complete document verification and reporting to their allotted college within the stipulated deadline.
- A refundable security deposit, where applicable, is mandatory for candidates participating in choice filling and is forfeited if a seat is allotted but the candidate fails to join or report.
- Vacant seats after each round move forward to the subsequent round, and any remaining seats after the final round are filled through the Stray Vacancy round.
- Candidates can register and participate simultaneously in both DME Assam's State Quota counselling and MCC's All India Quota counselling, since these are separate processes. However, a candidate cannot hold seats allotted under both quotas at the same time.
