Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026 is the state-level admission process that allots MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH (Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy) seats in Karnataka to candidates who have qualified NEET UG 2026. It is conducted entirely online by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), the state’s official counselling body, through its portal cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea.

NEET UG 2026 was originally held on 3 May 2026, but a fresh Re-NEET exam was conducted on 21 June 2026 for affected candidates, and the National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the final NEET UG 2026 result on 16 July 2026. Once that result was out, KEA moved quickly, it opened a fresh registration window on 17 July 2026 for candidates who had not already registered under UGCET-2026, closing on 24 July 2026. The full Round 1 schedule, seat matrix, and information bulletin are expected on the KEA website shortly after this registration window closes.

Types of Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026
KEA's counselling isn't a single, uniform process, it runs several parallel tracks depending on the seat and the candidate profile:
- Government Quota Counselling (G seats): Covers 100% of seats in government medical/dental colleges, plus the government's share of seats in private non-minority colleges (40% medical/35% dental) and private minority colleges (25%). Open only to Karnataka-domiciled candidates who meet one of KEA's eligibility clauses.
- Private/Management Quota Counselling (P seats – GMP & OPN): Covers the private-quota share in KPCF (COMED-K), KRLMPCA, and AMPCK colleges. Split into GMP (Karnataka candidates only) and OPN (open to any Indian citizen, all-India merit).
- NRI Quota Counselling (N seats): 15% of seats in private/deemed colleges, reserved for NRI, NRI-sponsored, OCI, PIO, and foreign national candidates.
- Others Quota (Q seats): A further 5% of private-college seats kept for "Others" category candidates as defined by KEA rules.
- Religious & Linguistic Minority Counselling: Applicable in KRLMPCA/AMPCK minority colleges, reserved for candidates of the college's specific religious or linguistic community (Muslim, Christian, Tamil, Telugu, Kodava, Tulu, etc.).
- AYUSH Counselling (Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy): KEA separately allots 85% of AYUSH seats (barring the 15% AIQ) using the same NEET UG 2026 score.
- Stray Vacancy Round: The final, most open round for seats still vacant after Round 3, even candidates who hadn't registered earlier can join, as per NMC's 2023 directive that this round must also run only through KEA in online mode.
Karnataka NEET Counselling Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026 works on two layers, the standard academic/NEET eligibility that applies to everyone, and Karnataka's domicile clauses that decide who can claim a Karnataka-quota (Government/GMP) seat.
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Nationality | Indian citizen for Government/Private/OPN seats; OCI/PIO/NRI/Foreign Nationals eligible only for specifically notified NRI/Others seats |
| Qualifying exam | Must have qualified NEET UG 2026 (including the Re-exam held on 21 June 2026) |
| Academic qualification | Passed 2nd PUC/12th standard (or equivalent) with English as a subject, and minimum 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (40% for SC/ST/Category-1/2A/2B/3A/3B candidates) |
| Age | Minimum 17 years as on 31 December of the admission year |
| Karnataka-quota eligibility | Must satisfy at least one of KEA's Karnataka domicile/eligibility clauses (studied in Karnataka for a set number of years, parent domiciled in Karnataka, defence/CAPF domicile, Kannada/Tulu/Kodava/Beary mother tongue, etc.) |
| Non-Karnataka candidates | Eligible only for "Others"/OPN/NRI seats and must clear the general-category qualifying percentile; Karnataka SC/ST/OBC reservation benefits apply only to Karnataka-domiciled SC/ST/OBC candidates |
| Minimum qualifying percentile | Prescribed by the competent authority after Re-NEET UG 2026 results (typically 50th percentile for General/EWS, 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC, with relaxed criteria for PwBD candidates) |
Karnataka NEET Counselling Process Step by Step
- Check your NEET UG 2026/Re-NEET result and rank on neet.nta.nic.in.
- Register or link your roll number on the KEA counselling portal (see the next section for details).
- Pay the prescribed registration fee based on your category.
- Upload/enter your academic and category documents, including 12th marks, on the KEA portal; Karnataka candidates claiming Kannada/Tulu/Kodava/Beary clauses must also take KEA's Kannada Language Test.
- Complete document verification, done online for most Karnataka candidates via the marks-entry portal, but certain categories (OCI/PIO/NRI/Foreign Nationals, non-Karnataka candidates claiming NRI Ward/Religious Minority seats, or St. John's Medical College Category-2 to Category-8) must appear in person at KEA, Bengaluru, after booking a slot.
- KEA publishes the eligibility list and merit list, and later the round-wise seat matrix.
- Enter your options (choices) in order of preference, this is a one-time exercise before Round 1.
- Check the mock allotment result and adjust your option order if you're unhappy with the preview.
- Round 1 seat allotment is published; if allotted, pay the caution deposit/fees and report to the college, or choose to wait for an upgrade in later rounds (per KEA's rules on retaining/surrendering seats).
- Round 2 and Round 3 follow the same option-entry-and-allotment cycle, using seats vacated or newly added after each round.
- Stray Vacancy/Mop-Up Round opens for whatever seats remain, with fresh registration allowed for candidates who missed earlier rounds.
Karnataka NEET Counselling Registration Process
The registration process differs for the candidates who have applied for UGCET-2026 (KCET) before and those who have not:
- If you have already applied for UGCET-2026: You do not need to apply all over again. Using the link given on the KEA portal, you can update your existing application by providing your NEET UG 2026 roll number.
- If you did not apply for UGCET-2026 before: You need to apply by using the new registration link (UGNEET-2026 new registration) that has activated on the portal on 17th July 2026 at 2:00 PM and will be closed on 24th July 2026 at 11:00 AM. The application process involves the following steps:
- Create an account by providing the NEET roll number and other personal or category details
- Upload a scanned image of the photograph and signature
- Pay the registration fee through credit card/debit card/net-banking/UPI.
Registration fee (as notified for this cycle, subject to final confirmation on the KEA portal):
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| SC / ST / Category-1 / PwBD | ₹500 |
| General / 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B | ₹2,500 |
| NRI / OCI / PIO / Foreign Nationals | ₹5,500 |
Non-Karnataka candidates must register online, enter their 12th-standard marks through KEA's Marks Entry web portal, and upload the required certificates in PDF format. Most non-Karnataka candidates do not need to appear physically for verification, the exceptions are OCI/PIO/NRI/Foreign Nationals, and non-Karnataka candidates claiming an NRI Ward seat, a Religious Minority seat, or a St. John's Medical College Category-2 to Category-8 seat, all of whom must book a slot and appear at KEA, Bengaluru.
Karnataka NEET Counselling Choice Filling
Choice/option filling in Karnataka NEET counselling has a few rules that trip up a lot of first-time candidates:
- It's a one-time exercise. The list of options you enter before Round 1 becomes your base list for every subsequent round, you cannot start over with a completely fresh list later.
- No limit on the number of options. You can enter as many college-course combinations as you like, in any order of priority.
- Medical and Dental options can be mixed. You don't have to enter all Medical choices first, you can interleave Medical and Dental options in whatever priority order you actually prefer.
- Between rounds, you can delete or reorder your existing options, and you can add new options only for colleges/courses that get newly added to the seat matrix after Round 1, you cannot add colleges that were already available but that you simply didn't select earlier.
- Use the mock allotment to sanity-check your list before the real Round 1 allotment locks in.
- Once the option-entry window for a round closes, your list is frozen exactly as it stood at that date and time, plan and double-check well before the deadline.
Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026 Documents Required
Keep both originals and one set of self-attested photocopies ready for document verification. The exact list depends on which eligibility clause and reservation category you're claiming, but broadly, you'll need:
- NEET UG 2026 (or Re-NEET) admit card and rank letter/scorecard
- SSLC/10th standard marks card
- 2nd PUC/12th standard marks card
- Study/transfer certificates supporting your Karnataka eligibility clause (school/college study certificates, countersigned by the Block Education Officer where required)
- Caste/caste-income certificate for reserved categories, Form 'D' for SC/ST, Form 'E' for Category-1, Form 'F' for 2A/2B/3A/3B
- Income certificate (for SC/ST/Category-1 candidates claiming fee exemption or scholarship)
- Rural study certificate (1st to 10th standard, ten full years) plus Non-Creamy-Layer certificate, if claiming rural reservation
- Kannada Medium study certificate, if claiming the Kannada-medium quota
- Parent's study/domicile/employment certificate, where the eligibility clause is based on a parent's Karnataka connection
- Passport-size photographs and signature
- Aadhaar card or another valid photo ID
- Category-specific documents where applicable: NRI Ward certificate, defence/ex-servicemen/CAPF domicile proof, PwBD disability certificate, Jammu & Kashmir migrant identity card, religious/linguistic minority certificate, Article 371(J) Hyderabad-Karnataka (Kalyana Karnataka) eligibility certificate
- For OCI/PIO/NRI/Foreign Nationals: passport, visa, sponsor/relationship proof, income tax documents, and an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities where required
Karnataka NEET Counselling Reservation Policy
Karnataka runs one of the more detailed state reservation matrices in the country. Here's how the state-quota seats break down (this applies to Government seats and the Karnataka-quota share of private-college seats; it does not apply to the 15% AIQ, which follows the central reservation policy):
| Category | Reservation |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 17% |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 7% |
| Category-1 | 4% |
| Category-2A | 15% |
| Category-2B | 4% |
| Category-3A | 4% |
| Category-3B | 5% |
| Total OBC (Cat-1 + 2A + 2B + 3A + 3B) | 32% |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 10% (separate from the above) |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) | 5%, horizontal across all categories |
Seat Allotment & Important Rules
- Seats are classified into four broad types: G (Government), P (Private – GMP & OPN), N (NRI), and Q (Others) and each has its own fee structure and eligibility, so double-check which type you're choosing before entering an option.
- Option entry is one-time, the priority list you lock in before Round 1 carries through the rest of the counselling, subject to the modification rules explained above.
- If you have also been allotted a seat through another board (like COMEDK/KPCF or JEE), you must formally surrender the KEA-allotted seat before the last date for modifying options in Round 2 otherwise it may be treated as a blocked seat, and KEA can take action against you.
- Not reporting to a college is not the same as surrendering a seat. If you don't intend to join, you must surrender the seat to KEA in writing.
- No mutual transfer of seats is entertained under any circumstances.
- A refundable caution deposit (roughly ₹1,00,000 in the previous cycle, subject to revision) is typically payable once a candidate confirms/accepts a medical seat allotment.
- Producing fake or fraudulent certificates leads to immediate seat cancellation, forfeiture of fees, criminal prosecution, and debarment from future exams/counselling, with the matter also referred to NMC/DCI for blacklisting.
- KEA reserves the right to withdraw an admission at any point if a candidate is later found ineligible.
- All admissions are provisional and subject to approval by NMC/MCC/DCI/the concerned University; any dispute falls under the jurisdiction of the Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka.
Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026 Fees
Fees in Karnataka NEET counselling come in three separate buckets don't confuse them:
- Registration fee (paid once, at the time of applying): ₹500 for SC/ST/Category-1/PwBD, ₹2,500 for General/2A/2B/3A/3B, and ₹5,500 for NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals.
- Caution deposit (refundable security amount paid on accepting a seat): approximately ₹1,00,000 in the previous counselling cycle, this is set/revised by KEA each year.
- Tuition fee (paid to the college, fixed category-wise by the Fee Regulatory Committee and hosted separately on the KEA website). As a rough guide based on recent cycles:
| Seat type | Approximate annual tuition fee range |
|---|---|
| Government quota - government medical/dental colleges | ₹15,000 – ₹50,000 |
| Government quota - private colleges | Moderate, FRC-fixed, generally in the low lakhs |
| GMP/OPN - private medical colleges | Roughly ₹8 lakh – ₹25 lakh+, depending on the college's fee tier |
| NRI quota seats | Highest bracket, often ₹20 lakh - ₹30 lakh+ or the USD equivalent, fixed per college |
| Dental seats (all categories) | Generally lower than the corresponding medical-seat fee at the same college |
Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026 Merit List
Once document verification is complete, KEA prepares the Karnataka NEET merit list by combining each candidate's NEET UG 2026 All India Rank with their verified eligibility, category, and quota claims. Separate merit lists are prepared for the Government Quota, Management/Private Quota, NRI Quota, and minority-specific seats, since eligibility and competition differ across each.
