Types of Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026
KEA's counselling isn't a single, uniform process, it runs several parallel tracks depending on the seat and the candidate profile:
- Government Quota Counselling (G seats): Covers 100% of seats in government medical/dental colleges, plus the government's share of seats in private non-minority colleges (40% medical/35% dental) and private minority colleges (25%). Open only to Karnataka-domiciled candidates who meet one of KEA's eligibility clauses.
- Private/Management Quota Counselling (P seats – GMP & OPN): Covers the private-quota share in KPCF (COMED-K), KRLMPCA, and AMPCK colleges. Split into GMP (Karnataka candidates only) and OPN (open to any Indian citizen, all-India merit).
- NRI Quota Counselling (N seats): 15% of seats in private/deemed colleges, reserved for NRI, NRI-sponsored, OCI, PIO, and foreign national candidates.

Karnataka NEET Counselling Process Step by Step
- Check your NEET UG 2026/Re-NEET result and rank on neet.nta.nic.in.
- Register or link your roll number on the KEA counselling portal (see the next section for details).
- Pay the prescribed registration fee based on your category.
- Upload/enter your academic and category documents, including 12th marks, on the KEA portal; Karnataka candidates claiming Kannada/Tulu/Kodava/Beary clauses must also take KEA's Kannada Language Test.
- Complete document verification, done online for most Karnataka candidates via the marks-entry portal, but certain categories (OCI/PIO/NRI/Foreign Nationals, non-Karnataka candidates claiming NRI Ward/Religious Minority seats, or St. John's Medical College Category-2 to Category-8) must appear in person at KEA, Bengaluru, after booking a slot.

Karnataka NEET Counselling Registration Process
The registration process differs for the candidates who have applied for UGCET-2026 (KCET) before and those who have not:
- If you have already applied for UGCET-2026: You do not need to apply all over again. Using the link given on the KEA portal, you can update your existing application by providing your NEET UG 2026 roll number.
- If you did not apply for UGCET-2026 before: You need to apply by using the new registration link (UGNEET-2026 new registration) that has activated on the portal on 17th July 2026 at 2:00 PM and will be closed on 24th July 2026 at 11:00 AM. The application process involves the following steps:
- Create an account by providing the NEET roll number and other personal or category details
- Upload a scanned image of the photograph and signature
- Pay the registration fee through credit card/debit card/net-banking/UPI.

Non-Karnataka candidates must register online, enter their 12th-standard marks through KEA's Marks Entry web portal, and upload the required certificates in PDF format. Most non-Karnataka candidates do not need to appear physically for verification, the exceptions are OCI/PIO/NRI/Foreign Nationals, and non-Karnataka candidates claiming an NRI Ward seat, a Religious Minority seat, or a St. John's Medical College Category-2 to Category-8 seat, all of whom must book a slot and appear at KEA, Bengaluru.
Karnataka NEET Counselling Choice Filling
Choice/option filling in Karnataka NEET counselling has a few rules that trip up a lot of first-time candidates:
- It's a one-time exercise. The list of options you enter before Round 1 becomes your base list for every subsequent round, you cannot start over with a completely fresh list later.
- No limit on the number of options. You can enter as many college-course combinations as you like, in any order of priority.
- Medical and Dental options can be mixed. You don't have to enter all Medical choices first, you can interleave Medical and Dental options in whatever priority order you actually prefer.
- Between rounds, you can delete or reorder your existing options, and you can add new options only for colleges/courses that get newly added to the seat matrix after Round 1, you cannot add colleges that were already available but that you simply didn't select earlier.
- Use the mock allotment to sanity-check your list before the real Round 1 allotment locks in.
- Once the option-entry window for a round closes, your list is frozen exactly as it stood at that date and time, plan and double-check well before the deadline.
Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026 Documents Required
Keep both originals and one set of self-attested photocopies ready for document verification. The exact list depends on which eligibility clause and reservation category you're claiming, but broadly, you'll need:
- NEET UG 2026 (or Re-NEET) admit card and rank letter/scorecard
- SSLC/10th standard marks card
- 2nd PUC/12th standard marks card

Seat Allotment & Important Rules
- Seats are classified into four broad types: G (Government), P (Private – GMP & OPN), N (NRI), and Q (Others) and each has its own fee structure and eligibility, so double-check which type you're choosing before entering an option.
- Option entry is one-time, the priority list you lock in before Round 1 carries through the rest of the counselling, subject to the modification rules explained above.
- If you have also been allotted a seat through another board (like COMEDK/KPCF or JEE), you must formally surrender the KEA-allotted seat before the last date for modifying options in Round 2 otherwise it may be treated as a blocked seat, and KEA can take action against you.
- Not reporting to a college is not the same as surrendering a seat. If you don't intend to join, you must surrender the seat to KEA in writing.
- No mutual transfer of seats is entertained under any circumstances.
- A refundable caution deposit (roughly ₹1,00,000 in the previous cycle, subject to revision) is typically payable once a candidate confirms/accepts a medical seat allotment.
- Producing fake or fraudulent certificates leads to immediate seat cancellation, forfeiture of fees, criminal prosecution, and debarment from future exams/counselling, with the matter also referred to NMC/DCI for blacklisting.
- KEA reserves the right to withdraw an admission at any point if a candidate is later found ineligible.
- All admissions are provisional and subject to approval by NMC/MCC/DCI/the concerned University; any dispute falls under the jurisdiction of the Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka.
Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026 Fees
Fees in Karnataka NEET counselling come in three separate buckets don't confuse them:
- Registration fee (paid once, at the time of applying): ₹500 for SC/ST/Category-1/PwBD, ₹2,500 for General/2A/2B/3A/3B, and ₹5,500 for NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals.

A. State Quota counselling (85% government-college seats + 100% private-college seats) is run by KEA using Karnataka's own eligibility and reservation rules. All India Quota (15% of government-college seats) is run by MCC using central reservation norms, and it's open to candidates from any state.
Q. What documents are mandatory for Karnataka NEET counselling document verification?
A. At minimum: NEET UG 2026 admit card and scorecard, 10th and 12th marks cards, relevant study/domicile certificates for your eligibility clause, caste/income certificate if claiming reservation, and a valid photo ID plus any category-specific certificates (rural, Kannada medium, NRI Ward, minority, defence, PwBD, etc.) that apply to your claim.
